What's Happening In Humboldt County

 

Take advantage of the warmer weather that’s coming up in May with local Humboldt County activities in Ferndale, Arcata, Eureka and more.

The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will dock in Eureka, CA at the Bonnie Gool guest dock to offer dockside vessel tours, sailing cruises, and mock cannon battles. Dockside visitors can to tour the vessels and talk with the crew, while sailing passengers will experience the crew in action and the ship under wind power.

The Avenue of the Giants Marathon is one of the most scenic courses in the country, according to Runner’s World Magazine. Located on “The Avenue of the Giants” in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, the paved course winds through giant old growth redwoods along Highway 101. So far, there are 540 confirmed racers in the 2017 Marathon, 1,161 in the half marathon and 340 in the 10K.

  • College Graduations on Friday May 12, 2017

Two top-notch college in Humboldt County , College of The Redwoods and Humboldt State University, are each having their own commencement ceremony on Friday May 12th. Both celebrations are open to the public, attend the festivities and support your local Corsair and Lucky Logger graduates of 2017!

Events for the whole family! Support your local community while cycling through some of the most beautiful country in the United States. 10-, 20-, and 50-mile courses plus “California’s Toughest Century,” the 100-mile loop through the redwoods, tracing the Lost Coast to the Victorian Village of Ferndale. Early registration and check-in the week before the ride, Saturday, noon to 3 p.m at Adventure’s Edge, 125 W. 5th St., Eureka. On-site registration & packet pick-up in Bellotti Hall at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds, 1250 5th St. Ferndale, Friday, 5-7 p.m. and on Saturday, starting at 6 a.m.

A local tradition since 1969, the Kinetic Race is no parade! In the Kinetic Grand Championship art and artists are put to the test. Watch as these creative human-powered sculptures travel 50-miles over land, sand, water and mud and battle to be the 2017 Kinetic Grand Champion.

Kinetic classic events in May

Pay tribute to the community’s fallen soldiers at the Annual Memorial Day Parade and Service in Ferndale. The Memorial Day parade will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday May 29, 2017 from Woodward and Maplehurst south to Nine Mile Road, west to Livernois and to the Veteran’s Memorial. Spectators are welcome to bring lawn chairs and set up on the sidewalks of West Nine Mile Road and on the Woodward median from Maplehurst to Nine Mile Road.
